DELICATE-SSEN

Steel wire, nylon tights, polyfill stuffing, wool yarn, emboridery thread, steel chains.
(H: 413cm x W: 48cm)

This sculpture was hung using steel chains fixed to the ceiling in the back room of the Swan Project Space.

2024

DELICATE-ssen is a large-scale sculpture that resembles a rabbit skeleton and entrails. The piece is linked to Gerrard’s video installation Flesh of a Female and explores a female’s phyiscal and psychological transition from girlhood into womanhood. The piece encourages the audience to interact with the nylon structure, including ripping and tearing it. The end result intends to illustrate the impactful role external authorities have on young females.
